Avon Walk for Breast Cancer - Angela's Angels
Did you know that every three minutes, another woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer? Our president, Angela Cassano, was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2007 at age 31. It changed her life and she feels strongly about the need to educate others about early detection and provide access to care for those who need it. Each year in October, Angela and her team-Angela's Angels, made up of friends and pharmacy colleagues from around the country, walk 39.2 miles in two days in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer New York. Angela has just celebrated her fifth Anniversary as a breast cancer survivor and the team is walking for the 5th year! "Angela's Angels" is a team of great friends, united by the same cause.
The money raised goes to the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade, a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to provide access to care and to work toward finding a cure. They provide funding to organizations all over the country in five areas: medical research, clinical care, support services, educational and advocacy seminars, and community-based, non-profit early detection breast health programs. So far, Angela's Angels has raised almost $95,000 and Pharmfusion Consulting is proud to be a supporter of the Team!! Please click here to contribute to the cause!
Pharmfusion Professional Development Scholarship at Campbell University
The role of networking and professional development has played a huge part in Dr. Cassano's life. As a student, she actively attended professional conferences and has continued in her career. It was the contacts she made during those meetings that helped get Pharmfusion off the ground.
When Cassano wanted to give back to Campbell, her alma mater, she was reminded of how Dean Maddox subsidized students' trips to pharmacy meetings and that spring and winter break was typically scheduled around the conferences. Cassano was grateful for the encouragement she received to attend these conferences and wanted to pass that on.
She established the Pharmfusion Professional Development Scholarship at CPHS to provide pharmacy students with travel, lodging or registration assistance to state or national pharmacy association meetings.
For several years now, Pharmfusion has supported this scholarship. This past academic year, the scholarship helped eight students attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in Anaheim, Calif, ASHP Summer meeting in Denver and the APhA annual meeting in Seattle.
